Find out how e-invoicing will work from 2027 and what it means for companies, sole traders, and various industries. An overview of changes, obligations, and the practical impacts of electronic invoicing.
Starting in 2027, the way companies send invoices to each other is changing. Filing cabinets full of printed invoices will disappear, and it won't even be the classic PDF we used to send via email. Invoices will pass through a system that automatically sends, delivers, and records them.
It might sound a bit complicated, but in practice, it will bring more order and eliminate manual work. What does this mean for you in practice? Below are specific real-life situations to help you visualize it better.
e-invoicing mainly concerns business-to-business (B2B) communication. Mandatory electronic invoicing will practically not affect regular customers.
General Public (e.g., mobile phone bill)
If you are a regular customer, e-invoicing does not apply to you. You will receive invoices as you have until now:
- by email
- via an app
- by mail
This is a business-to-customer relationship, which does not fall under mandatory e-invoicing. So, nothing changes here.
Services (e.g., hairdresser, beautician)
If you are not a VAT payer and work mainly for the general public:
- you do not have to issue e-invoices
- you operate as before
However, from 2027, you will need to be able to receive all business-related invoices via e-invoicing.
You receive an invoice for energy, phone, or rent. This can now only be electronic.
Choose a so-called Digital Postman, and a simple application for receiving invoices will be enough.
Advantage: No major change in business operations.
Disadvantage: You still need to set up e-invoice reception.

Construction (Sole Trader, VAT payer)
If you work for companies, this is now an obligation.
- you are obliged to issue e-invoices
- you are obliged to receive e-invoices
You finish a job, issue an invoice, and it no longer goes by email as a PDF, nor will you send its paper version by mail. It is sent through the system directly to the client. At the same time, you will receive e-invoices, for example, for materials or supplier services.
This can work through accounting software or through a service that sends everything for you.
If you work for an individual without a Tax ID (DIČ), i.e., for a regular citizen, you issue the invoice as before – as a PDF or in printed form.
Advantage: Faster processing and less chaos.
Disadvantage: Need to adapt to a new system.
Trade (e-shops and stores)
e-Invoicing affects you mainly when selling to companies.
- company → must receive an e-invoice
- regular customer → nothing changes
The invoice is automatically created and sent as an e-invoice via a digital postman.
The invoice is created and sent just like before.
The e-shop must be connected to the digital postman system – an Access Point.
Advantage: Many things become automated.
Disadvantage: The beginning can be technically demanding.
IT Sector
Here, the least changes "for them," but the most "thanks to them." What do we mean? Let us explain.
When selling services, the same conditions apply as for others:
- to a company → must send an e-invoice
- to a regular customer → nothing changes
- at the same time, must be able to receive e-invoices
IT companies will create systems, connect accounting, and ensure automatic invoice sending.
A company develops an application that automatically sends an invoice, delivers it to the client, and saves it in the accounting system.
Advantage: Many new opportunities.
Disadvantage: Greater responsibility for errors.
Real Estate (Rentals)
In this segment, it depends on whether you are a VAT payer.
- VAT payer → you are obliged to issue e-invoices
- non-VAT payer → you don't have to issue, but you must receive e-invoices
You rent an office to a company:
- if you are a VAT payer → you issue an e-invoice for rent
- if you are not a VAT payer → you deliver the invoice as before
Advantage: Better overview of payments.
Disadvantage: It's a novelty for smaller landlords.
Gastro (restaurants, cafes)
In this segment, e-invoicing will affect you mainly with suppliers.
The supplier sends you an e-invoice and the system automatically receives it.
Nothing changes for customers. Cash register receipts remain.
Advantage: Better overview of costs.
Disadvantage: Need to get used to a new system.
Transport and Logistics
e-Invoices will be mandatory for invoicing between companies.
You deliver goods, issue an e-invoice through the system, and it is immediately available to the customer.
What needs to be done?
- verify your software
- modify or change it if necessary
Advantage: Faster payments.
Disadvantage: Business processes need to be adjusted.
Leasing Companies
Here, electronic invoicing will be very visible because leasing companies issue a large number of recurring invoices.
- they will have to send them electronically
- at the same time, they will receive e-invoices from partners
Practical Example
If you are a company and have a car on lease:
- every month you receive an e-invoice for the installment
- it is automatically recorded in the company
- you must be able to receive and process it
If you are a regular client – a non-entrepreneur – you will receive invoices as you have until now.
Advantage: Recurring invoices will be completely automatic.
Disadvantage: The system needs to be set up correctly at the beginning.
E-invoicing will affect VAT payers. Non-payers only need to be able to receive it. It will not affect ordinary people.
What does it mean for you?
No change.
Must be able to receive e-invoices.
Must both issue and receive e-invoices.
In practice, this means:
- smaller, almost minimal volume of paper
- less manual data entry
- more extensive automation
Initially, however, it will be necessary to set everything up correctly and learn the new way of working.
2 Interesting Facts
No more "I sent it by email, check your spam." The system delivers it directly to the other company.
Since everything goes through the system, invoices are clearer, easier to check, and more secure.
